Question: What do you get when you put a professor, a congresswoman, 25 chefs, and an elephant into a room at the Royal Sonesta hotel in Cambridge, MA?
Answer: A very interesting conversation about the upcoming Farm Bill.
Last Sunday, Chefs Collaborative, Let’s Talk About Food and the Royal Sonesta hotel invited Boston-area chefs to an intimate luncheon with Professor Marion Nestle with the goal of understanding more about the 2012 Farm Bill, now slated for congressional review in 2013. Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (Dem – ME) also attended the event and took some time during the meeting to present an overview of her bill, the Local Foods, Farms, and Jobs Act, which makes several reforms to the Farm Bill that aim to increase support for local food and infrastructure.
We were so excited to be a part of this dialogue and are committed to bringing you information about the Farm Bill as it becomes available. Stay tuned for a series of blog posts geared toward helping chefs understand the various components and implications of this important piece of legislation.
